That rascally Dan York!
He innocently pointed to transom.org the other day, after finding some useful Audacity envelope information (which is how I have been managing the music volume on my FIR reports for a few weeks now).
It’s all his fault. I bear no responsibility. He made me do it, your Honour.
I spent the better part of the night and into the wee hours of the morning wandering, deliriously happily, through the TOOLS section of the site.
After having asked what a good recording tool might be, I think I now have the answer (which, damn them, he and Shel Holtz have known for a while) — the Marantz PMD660.
I even found the ‘cure’ for my lack of input volume from my SM57 into my pc on the site (it’s the A96F). I know that Marantz don’t recommend dynamic mikes like the SM57, but I am happy with the quality (mp3 file) for podcasting.
All I need to pick up now is a good stereo desk mic, for those face-to-face interviews, and I’m set.
Sure, that doesn’t solve the ‘panel’ problem that I wanted resolved — but then again, if there is a panel worth recording they are probably going through a sound desk anyway, in which case I just take a feed from the desk. Problem, as we say here in the Antipodes, solvered.
Thanks, Dan, for pointing me off to a great resource.
It’s at times like these, as Ben has commented before, that the power of the internet just blows me away.
I remember back to pre-www days, when bulletin boards were the only social media. It used to blow me away that I could post a question about a particular MS Office problem I was having and someone the other side of the pond would post an answer, someone I was never ever likely to meet.
I still get a tingle down my spine when such serendipitous moments occur in the blogosphere.
