Donna PepsiCola recently got frustrated with a local telemarketing firm.
At least Donna’s caller was local — in the last cycle of calls I had I was annoyed by Indians who barely were able to converse in English. All of which tapped into the outrage sparked 2-3 years ago when it was realised just how many call centre jobs were leaving Australia’s shores for the Indian sub-continent.
Whilst I fully sympathise with her, it did bring to mind a tv advert currently running for the RAA here in Adelaide.
In the advert the main character is annoyed by a telemarketer and tells the telemarketer that he has to hang up because he’s got to go down to the new deli (aka ‘delicatessen’ in some countries), at which the telemarketer says that he’s from New Delhi and our main character should look him up next time he’s in town and they could go grab a curry together.
Update:
TELSTRA has completed the initial phase of a massive overhaul of its $1.3 billion-a-year information technology operations that could see hundreds more jobs moved offshore to India.
