On Blogging (and podcasting) for Benjamins

G'day! Thanks for returning!

Podcasting for profit - not for everyoneFellow compatriot and all-round good egg Trevor Cook makes a very wise (dare I say ‘sound’?) comment regarding the [favourite phrase of Neville Hobson rapidly approaching:] ‘monetising‘ of podcasts and blogs.

Trevor points out:

Blogs and podcasts work for people who don’t need to maximise their audience but who do want to reach specific audiences without having to deal with people (journalists and editors) who are in the business of maximising audiences.

Maximising the audience distorts and simplifies, blogs and podcasts allow depth and cater to people who are interested. Whereas newspapers, as Evelyn Waugh famously remarked, are written for people who aren’t interested.

As always, well put Trevor.

Thanks Lee I do think we can easily lose sight of the fact that new media is not simply old media transferred to an online environment. Blogs, and podcasts, are different – and aren’t we all pleased about that vive le difference

Lee, for some reason I think the man in the maroon jacket, colorful shirt, black pants and cool shades is really your slick podcasting alter ego. :-)
