I remember that ad well! I was living in the UK at the time and it
was one of my faves.

It was for Fosters, so try that as a search term. The other Aussie
beer company advertising at the same time was XXXX - "Australian
for beer" ... Remember the bride in the back of the ute and the
bloke and his dog in the front?

Good hunting!

hi guys, i'm trying to find an old beer commercial -think it was fosters, prob just shown at the cinema, from 80s or 90s - went something like this... 2 barmen watch a beautiful sports car pulling up and they comment that the driver is probably ugly...he gets out and he's distinguished, attractive, they comment that he's probably stupid and someone hails him - hey professor! they comment he's probably unpopular and suddenly lots of people are greeting him, they comment that he probably drinks a girly drink.. the guy turns to the bar and orders a sweet sherry, or something like that, the barmen smile knowingly, then the guy adds, in a manly voice..."and make mine a Fosters!" very cool ad.. sorry this is so long... anyone know how i can find a youtube vid of this, i've tried searching on everything i can think of. thanks :0

THAT ad campaign sure must have exceeded everyone's expectations. Brilliant and harmless advert, but being banned is the best thing to happen to it -- more PR mileage from that than the Poms (British) expected.

Mind you, if only we could teach Fosters how to make a decent beer to sell to the world... Much, much better is a little Tasmanian brewery called 'Boags' -- if you get to see some, Bryan, avail yourself of a fine drop!

..and today, Max Hitchins - The Hospitality Doctor in North Sydney is raving about the campaign in his newsletter.

He wrote, in part, " The British Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre has ruled the slogan failed the Œtaste test‚ and that Œbloody‚ should be edited out, although it will be allowed online and in print. (However the Œb‚ word has often been on British TV and is also used in the English children‚s movie Harry Potter!) Now, this Œdouble standard‚ is getting Australia a whole heap of free media around the world. (Talk about good luck!)

Even allowing for my bias, as an Australian, I believe this is an extremely clever web sites and advertising campaign.:
