If anyone doubts the power of the blogosphere to influence business, Todd Andrlik over at the ToddAnd pr/marcoms blog points to John Scalzi’s recent brush with notoriety.

John was pitched by two companies via his email inbox — one was good, one was not. John decided to publish both pitches on his blog, outlining in detail what was good and/or bad about each email. As Todd says, Scalzi’s post was an intriguing example of the dos and don’ts of blog relations.

Two days and several dozen comments later, the president of the “bad pitch firm” commented on the post, calling his employee out by first name and claiming that she was fired for failing to subscribe to the firm’s professional standards. Wow.

Owen Lystrup commented on Todd’s post that we all feel for Scalzi — no one wants to have someone else fired. But as Owen says, let’s hope everyone learns a lesson.

The image at the top of this post is Todd‘s: nice work, mate!
