My first vidblog… be gentle with me!

G'day! Thanks for returning!

Me and the fabbo CommsCafe mug

Today marks the first videoblog from me.

A scary enterprise — now the world can see why some say I have a great face for radio!

In today’s videoblog:

Download the video [24mb] — no dedicated rss feed for it yet because I’m not sure how often I’m going to vidblog. I also think I need to adjust my recording settings to reduce the filesize.

Many thanks to Ross Monaghan for the webcam!

UPDATE: Bryan Person has been experiencing difficulties with this vidcast — in particular, sound but no audio. I think the problem may lie with podpress, so I have ‘unhooked’ it for this video and it seems to work if you download the file to your hard drive and play it from there. Let me know…

  • Lee,
The holiday was great and yes, I did hear your kind comments in FIR 167. Well, on the pitching, I got another 6 clueless pitches today, 1 half-clueless pitch (wrong subject matter but they did know my podcast is about security) and one half-clueless phone call (the PR person was clearly reading from a script, but it was actually a company I was interested in). Quite an interesting experiment!

Haven't listened to your Aug 30 vidblog... will do so now. :-)

    Dan
  • Hey Dan, hope the holiday was fab. I wonder if you had a chance to listen to my report on FIR 167 - I mentioned you by name and your conversation about Flash sites. Thanks again for your great blog, mate! How's the VON pitching? You should watch my vidblog for 30th August - you get yet ANOTHER mention!! :-)
  • Lee,

Between some insane deadlines and a wee bit of vacation, I missed the fact that you had now entered the land of video blogging - congrats! It's great to see your face beyond the image on the top of your blog!

    Dan
  • Lee, sorry it's taken me so long to chime in. Great vlog and thanks for the mention.
  • No idea how you change that, Lee. You better e-mail the PodPress guy. Let me see if I can track him down.
  • Lee
Bryan - how do you change the default file mode?
  • Lee
Ah Bryan -- thanks for that. The stain is because that jumper is my very comfy "painting" jumper -- the one I wear when painting on cold days (not that *that* happens much). As for your compliments -- duly flattered, mate! I enjoyed doing it so may do some more...

As for Podpress -- I upgraded to 6.6 and thought that would be the answer; no, but the quicktime default thingy might be -- I will investigate further!

    Cheers, old fruit!
  • Lee, mate, you're a real natural in front of the camera. Loved the hand gestures, too, but what's that stain on the shirt on your left arm? A little messy with your brekkie, eh?

Hey, I'm able to see you as well when I play the video in Windows Media Player. The default setting in PodPress was for QuickTime, so maybe that was it.

In any case, looking forward to more of these! Well done.

The more time I spend in Second Life, Dan, the more I see the potential. What if global terrorism against the 'coalition of the willing' were to be so co-ordinated over so long a period that business, indeed tourist too, travel were stopped. Of course, commercial, major, airlines would go out of business -- but watch how places and service providers like SL would jump into their graves.

I take your point about the new wave of opportunity -- and the link you left on Neville's post was a cracker! -- that terrorism presents alternative meeting services like SL.

Imagine if someone could package it in a manner that was attractive (i.e. 'serious'/'corporate') to business -- they'd clean up!
  • Frightfully engaging Lee.

Worth it just to take your rivalry with Mr Jenkins to the next level before anything else.

Your journey through Second Life is fascinating. Originally I stood where you did thinking that yes this looks nice but how is it important considering the resources it takes to get moving. Now your views are significantly altering my perception of this virtual world.
