Update on Second Life meeting later today

in Second Life

G'day! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Second Life meetings Second Life has been ‘down’ for the last 12 hours, by my reckoning, and there is a new version to download (usually around the 26-35mb size).

So if you are planning on jumping into the meeting with Kami, myself et al at the ‘last moment’ be aware that you may be considerably later than you planned.

Plus — The Second Life Business Communicators (and a superb blog, too, guys!) will be gathering at the ‘Infinite Mind’ in-world facility and be treated to a presentation and discussion with its creators; 3:00 PM SL Time (which is also PDT).

Still thinking of virtual worlds as ‘teenage playthings’? Global consulting firm TowerGroup is advising its clients to consider reallocating funds from existing marketing, advertising and R&D budgets to put themselves on the forefront of the “emerging MMORPH/VSW market”. Insurance Network News has more info, but a large tip of the Akubra to the SL Business Communicators blog.

  • Second Life is one of those emerging phenomena like the www was a decade ago, and the blog/podosphere is today.

In ten years time we will all look back and laugh, but for now we are swamped by how much fantastic opportunities there are in social media, let alone SL.

So many opportunities, so many directions I could take... which one should I choose - because I would hate to make a wrong decision and miss out on the 'gold'.

The truth is, there's lots of gold in "them thar hills", we just have to be smart enough to mine it for our own particular niche needs. Which means staying connected, researching, following those who have gone before and learning from the mistakes they are (thankfully) sharing.
  • Lee,

Thanks so much for mentioning the Business Communicators of Second Life meeting - and especially for your kind words about the blog.

Everyone is welcome! and the creators of The Infinite Mind radio show and developers of the Second Life simulation promise to have some interesting things to share about media in Second Life.
  • What the hell is an Akubra? Should I get one? Would I look good in it?

Lots of my audience Thursday were curious about Second Life, but enormously skeptical. But open.
  • Although you have to admit that an envirnment that closes itself down for 12-plus hours and gives no good reason is a risk for business.
