Australia to tax Second Life income

Reuters’ Second Life agency is reporting, via the SMH, that the ATO in Australia (Australian Tax Office) will treat Second Life income as real income.

“The real world value of a transaction may form part of your taxable income, even if it is in Linden dollars,” a spokeswoman for the Australian Tax Office told the paper. “If you are getting a monetary benefit then it’s not treated any differently – normal rules apply.”

…I’m so busy I don’t even have time to read feeds these days — anyone else suffer from that? I know from personal correspondence that Jenkins and Donna P are similarly swamped…
