G'day! Thanks for returning!
The very wise and urbane David Phillips has just raised an interesting question in Facebook.
No doubt you would have heard some of David’s superb reports on FIR — as someone once said, even just listening to David’s mellifluous voice makes you feel smarter.
As you can see from the image, David is constantly being asked what value there is in social media, particularly from ad/pr agencies.
As I said to David:
Each time they ask you, before you answer, request a pound coin from them. Pocket it, then smile knowingly. The penny will drop soon enough for them! {grin}
David replied that he’d already made three pounds today!
For each of us the value of Social Media networks is different, but for me it is in connecting with and sharing my passions with like-minded souls anywhere and everywhere in the world.
Wikipedia has a great definition that I use in my presentations:
Social media describes the online technologies and practices that people use to share content, opinions, insights, experiences, perspectives, and media themselves.
Key word for me: share
p.s. Bill Sweetman is a superb podcaster and marketer (I recently interviewed him), and has just started in a brilliant new role at Tucows (General Manager, Domain Portfolio). He is in possession of a fine mind. So therefore when one sees that he is a ‘Snufflegot Engineer from the Planet Zulothar’ one is inspired to find out what he’s up to!
David Ferrabee is an employee comms colleague at Hill & Knowlton in Londinium and is also just about to announce the release of his great book on Social Media – stay tuned for more.

Thanks Lee. Wise, urbane, mellifluous even… and today’s count is £1 already.
