Lee, I sympathize with your concern, but I disagree with your call to action.

Civil Disobedience is an action to protest an injustice perpetrated by a state. It is proper to protest laws and ordinances that are on their face unjust and immoral. If working within the system gets you nowhere, then the plight of accepting the punishment for breaking an unjust law works. It is a self-sacrifice in the name of PR, in that it brings attention to the cause and rallies peaceful support.

I can’t support your call for vandalism, even for a perceived environmental crime. You’re asking for actions to be taken against individuals who have not broken any law. In fact, some might have a disability or a medical requirement that they ride higher than what is considered “normal.”

I don’t want to get caught in the slippery slope of the Ends justifying the Means. What’s to stop a rampaging mob from torching my house because they think I occupy too many square feet? Why not destroy crops and confiscate land from farmers who don’t use agricultural practices you don’t like?

Civil Disobedience as it is intended to be is never supposed to infringe on the life or property of others. That is a free ticket to anarchy, and I don’t think it helps anyone anywhere. My 2 cents…
