I think if one has a strong idea, brand, vision, you can lead the way from the front without adsense revenues and ultimately take part in other revenues, through your own innovation.

I feel so often adsense ad's degrade the user experience within a web page / blog page. They seem so 1940's and contain such little production value.

There are two questions that you have to answer, Lee.
One) Will the ads dilute my brand? (both in terms of losing readers-doubtful; and in terms of choosing the space(s) for the ads to run-can you place them so that they are prominent without pushing important info about you down too far on the page)
Two) Can you control the ad content so that it compliments the contents of the page? (are the ads for competing services; are they relevant to your readers)
I'm all for you making a bit of Aussie $$ in return for your great work, so it won't put me off. The two questions are what I would have to answer for myself if I were to ponder such a thing for my site or blog.
Love & Peace, Clarence
