The big, bald, bad man in black, Mitch Joel, recently attended a marketing conference and shared some thoughts on the presentation by Mike Murphy, VP of Media Sales for Facebook.
I thoroughly recommend you read Mitch’s full post, and as a taste teaser I offer this:
- The average Facebook user spends about twenty-one minutes plus per day at the online social network.
- The average Facebook user visits four times per day.
- Facebook is adding about three hundred and fifty thousand new users every day.
- On the morning of Mike’s presentation Facebook surpassed fifty million worldwide community members.
- Facebook’s size doubles every six months.
There is a stack more insight and commentary on Mitch’s post, including a startling revelation about one of Facebook’s most successful and amazing revenue sources — and it’s not those horrible sidebar adverts!
As Mitch says,
So, Facebook is not just a sticky Website… there’s a business model behind it. No matter how simple it may seem to us.
