G'day! Thanks for returning!
Flock is a new browser on the block, aiming to take market share away from Firefox and Internet Explorer. Based on Firefox technology, I’ve been really enjoying giving Flock a good run for its money over the last fortnight.
It comes with a stack of social media goodness attached to it, allowing you to set up feeds you want to read, ala iGoogle.
But it also has been a source of frustration. To wit:
- it hasn’t carried across my ‘Blog this via LiveWriter’ button
- it hasn’t carried across my SnagIt button
- it hasn’t carried across my Copernic Desktop Agent button
All three buttons are very important to me and how I run my desktop and browsing.
I can easily see Flock becoming the Social Media browser of choice, across all platforms, but it will need to recognise ALL of the plugins attached to other browsers, and carry them into itself, if it is to dominate the desktop.
As for me, I’ve gone back to Firefox — my SnagIt is too important to lose!

Hey Lee,
Thanks for trying Flock! Most Firefox extensions do work with Flock. We don’t automatically port them over for several reasons, the primary one being that most people have a lot of superfluous extensions, and we suggest trying to exist without them to see if you really need them. Additionally, extensions can affect performance.
You should be able to install those extensions in the same way you did with Firefox. If you get an error message, it’s pretty easy to change the .xpi to make them work. It’s not ideal, but it’s not that difficult I’ve done it before).
I hope you’ll give Flock another chance!
