Hi Lee

I agree that the Australian coporate giants should move more towards social media. However, being as big as they are... their movement arn't exactly easy to track. Do you have any examples of companies in Australia that have move their attention to social media and perhaps are even success in their transition??

I live in Singapore so I don't really have direct access... but i would love to know more about it anyway!

Thanks so much!

It probably shouldn't go without mention that Telstra's locations in Second Life are some of the most visited in SL. I just had a brief exchange about this on Twitter (hat tip to @CameronReilly)

While corporations are interested, I daresay they are being held back by a lack of reliable metrics. And while the agencies can sense the potential, the real value will be unleashed when consultants are able to provide some business modelling around Web 2.0.

Having said that, many organisations are trialling wikis and the like internally, but they would not necessarily classify these as social media. And many of the large tech companies already have active Australian virtual teams using social media (eg IBM, Mirosoft, Accenture etc). So far this is being used as a source of competitive advantage -- and kept behind the firewall or VPN. I am sure this will change when we can measure the value.
