Three pcs – and still I need more!

G'day! Thanks for returning!

As you can see, I’ve got the ‘Noisy Notebook’ [with the fan that permanently runs flat out and sounds like a 737 on take-off], the main pc and my little Asus Eee pc.

The main pc runs ooVoo, skype, Seesmic and other video tools (and other memory intensive apps like Outlook); the notebook runs my browsers, and my Eee runs my Second Life material like my iGoogle for my academic work (but not SL itself).

[The eagle-eyed amongst you might notice the website showing in my main monitor. It's not launched yet, but it is an incredibly exciting new video tool ready to go live any second now... More news when it does!]

Is this overkill? I could do with another pc just to handle Outlook and Office apps and free up the main pc just for video.

Oh, and at the direct request of the lovely Connie Benson I’ve been playing with the editing features of ACDSee Pro2. Contrary to my expectations, they really are quite good. Not up there yet with SnagIt’s feature list, but the speech/thought bubble tool is cool and dead handy — I never could figure out how to do it properly in Fireworks (anyone who can do them in fireworks is welcome to share their secret with me!).

Thanks, Connie, for insisting I persist. I actually turned a photo of youngest stepdaughter from ‘okay’ into ‘really tasty’ by using the sepia effect and the ’shadows/highlights’ tool for taking her eyes out of the shadows. For privacy reasons I can’t show you the ‘before’ and ‘after’, but trust me the result is very good! If you come into the BetterComms Towers kitchen on the 17th floor you can check the result out for yourself.

Oh, and if anyone knows how to edit the list of pre-stored tags in Windows Live Writer can you drop me a line too, please? Thanks.

  • Hey Lee,
I have Snag-it too & it serves a different purpose for me.

I'm glad that ACDSee rescued a photo for you. It has some powerful editing tools. And you have a serious amount of hardware there too! (are we addicted?!)
