mitch joel and leesa barnes: influential social mediarists from Canada

I’m exceedingly proud to announce that my colleagues and imaginary friends* Mitch Joel and Leesa Barnes have been announced as Most Influential Male and Second-Most Influential Female in Social Media.

The Canadian community site Profectio rated over 100 men and women on various scales and Mitch and Leesa came up trumps.

In a private conversation, Mitch said

I have no idea who/how it works, but seriously, me being more influential than Cory Doctorow?!? Not realistic.

Yet as I pointed out to him, I read Mitch more than I read Cory, the same goes with Leesa, and both contribute a tremendous amount of in-depth thought leadership to the business communication industry (which includes marketing, PR, organisational comms, digital media, advertising, etc.).

So, “yah, boo sucks!” to Cory Doctorow and “YEAH TEAM!!” to Mitch and Leesa!

I’ll be able to tell my grandchildren, “I knew them when…”

* A delegate at one of my Social Media workshops said that all of the ‘friends’ I have in cyberspace weren’t really friends – they were ‘imaginary friends’. I pointed out to her that these ‘imaginary friends’ were every bit as ‘real’ to me as the friends I was physically proximate to. Decades of academic research would wholeheartedly support me on this.

I’m very happy by the picture you chose to represent me, Lee. She looks young and full of life. No gray hairs ;)
