I am a little concerned about the real-time search results because many will come from people who don't realise their information is now public.

Today's Privacy changes mean that Facebook now defaults to making all of your information public. They can be changed, but many people will simply click OK to make the dialog box get out of their way.

It's slowly dawned on me today that this means a lot of people will be sharing their information with the whole world without realising it. The kind of information a social engineer or scammer would LOVE…

    Exactly Taryn

There are already examples in the UK of criminals waiting for someone to announce on their FB profiles that they are going away for the weekend, the dogs are in kennels, etc., and in the burglars go, with the whole weekend to play.

Combine that with the propensity for most people to 'friend' anyone who looks half interesting (and for men to accept friendship from anyone who looks half attractive) and you have a burglar's paradise…

But this is called 'social engineering' and has been going on since time immemorial.
