Second Life versus Real World interaction

Ben Hamilton rang me the other day, after having listened to a talk-back show about online dating (well, sometimes you listen to anything to relieve the monotony of long-distance driving from one client to the next).

As Ben said, in the virtual world there are no ‘hairs in the sink’ moments — you can build up any number of fantasies about your object of affection, but when the fantasy meets reality there can, as we have all heard, be all sorts of bumps.

Including ‘hairs in the sink’.

Thanks for the thought, Ben.

  1. Hehe… I wasn’t just listening to any old radio station, I was listening to 4BC (1116AM) in Brisbane - I’m an earnest fan of the Morning show (Peter & Ross).

It was interesting in the interview that I heard that online relationships have a significant difference from real world (first life) releationships - that being that online there are no arkward hygiene issues that suddenly jump out at you.

It made me think about what ‘business hygiene issues’ are not encountered online…. in the real world, we see the kid behind the coffee shop counter pick their nose, scratch their butt and not wash their hands, online this is invisible.

Food for thought, or if you prefer, hair in the shower plug hole. :-)
