Second Life and research funding

If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed (you can even subscribe via email!). Thanks for visiting! My co-supervisor on my PhD, Dr Denise Wood, has just featured on page one of the UniSA newsletter with news of her Second Life research.
Says the article,

The adventures of Penny and Isabella

One of the early discussions I had with one of my supervisors, Jackie Cook, had very little to do with my planned research of looking at 3D CVEs and SMEs. Jackie suggested that I create a blog about the adventures of the girls.
But the idea was such fun that I certainly did toy with the [...]

There’s a dissertation in here somewhere…

I’ve already got my own research to get on with, thank you very much, but if everything goes pear-shaped I can always go back to my first degree background (psychology) and research a new topic: Identity Theory and how it can be shaped, manipulated and extrapolated in the 3D virtual world.
As a way of [...]

Writing, but with a huge Yebbut on my shoulders

Went to a session on searching for published theses and dissertations today; whilst on campus thought I might as well pop in to see my supervisors, Denise Wood and Jackie Cook.
Denise was out, but spent a few good minutes with Jackie, who helped me stay positive during this phase of the project.
What has happened so [...]

More on autoethnetnography

Further to an earlier post, I have begun writing my methods chapter.

For instance, he pointed to successful interactive corporate applications by book publishers involving virtual author tours and readings with authors.

So says Enid Burns (Mr Burns’ sister?) over at [...]

The benefits of the long haul PhD

Now that my ace rival for the hearts and minds of Australia’s business communicators — Trevor ‘Hamster Juggler’ Cook — has joined the ranks of the idle rich (aka PhD students) I was scouring the web for an image of a PhD floppy hat and came across this image from PhDCentral.com (a full-size version is [...]

I’m wondering if anyone knows how to solve a particular problem I have:
I want to track avatars that I might send to a business, and then track any transactions that avatar might make.
Anyone?

A paralysed man using only his brain waves has been able to manipulate a virtual Internet character, Japanese researchers said Monday, calling it a world first, says AFP via Yahoo! News.
He was then able to have a [...]

Google Android eclipses Second Life! says PR company

Says HitSearch in a media release:
eitarosoft, inc. today announced that they have successfully developed a 3D virtual world service on Google’s platform “Android”.
The conventional 3D virtual world service required the use of a very high-specific PC, but Android-mounted mobile devices will enable users to enjoy the 3D virtual world service with commonly available PCs because [...]
